It’s no coincidence that Atlus said there could be more announcements in 2023.
We wrote a few days ago that Atlus, part of SEGA, could unveil more unannounced projects this year. At the time, we guessed it might be Persona 6, but a rumor surfaced on the ResetEra forum, courtesy of user lolilolailo that suggests otherwise. Since they correctly stated before the announcement that Persona 3, 4, and 5 would be coming to Xbox Game Pass, it’s worth considering what they wrote: they believe Persona 3 is getting a remake!
The visual style will be similar to Persona 5 with several quality-of-life improvements. Unfortunately, not everything will be included, so what was new in Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable might be left out, such as the epilogue (The Answer) and the female protagonist storyline. Why did Atlus decide as such? “Persona 3 Portable is a cheap port of a PSP game, the same as Persona 4 Golden. It’s easy money, and you can bring the “whole” saga (because the first two Persona games don’t exist) to the new consoles. Persona 3 Remake is like Persona 5, graphically and QoL stuff related. And the content (or the lack of it) might not leave all the fans happy, so they still have Persona 3 Portable. Also, it’s Atlus,” the leaker wrote.
The person added that no one should get their hopes up for an improvement in Tartarus. It’s the procedurally generated main dungeon in the game, so that Atlus won’t be doing significant updates for the randomly generated area. Since a moderator of ResetEra could corroborate the veracity of the information, there may be something to what has just been said.
How big a problem is it in the gaming industry that, in many cases, relatively modern games have to be remade because they don’t have the guts or credibility to continue old franchises properly?
