Ubisoft Düsseldorf’s game will likely not stumble at the finish line.
At Gamescom 2018, the French publisher showed off The Settlers: New Allies and the strategy game was scheduled for release in 2019. That didn’t happen, the pandemic intervened, and a year ago, Ubisoft said it would be released in March. (Ubisoft and postponements are pretty typical: in addition to Skull & Bones, there’s the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, for example, or Beyond Good & Evil 2, which may never happen…)
Then, at the end of November, Ubisoft had the nerve to set a precise release date (and to drop the Google Stadia, which will die next week and which the French publisher has been surprisingly persistent in supporting) and to publish The Settlers: New Allies’ system requirements on the Epic Games Store site (because despite the slow return of the French company to Steam, they’re not letting Epic Games’ money go for exclusivity…), so we now know what rig you need to run it on PC.
Minimum system requirements:
- Operating system: Windows 10 x64 (no version number is mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or better
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 (with 2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon 550 (with 2 GB VRAM)
- DirectX: DX11
- …and not mentioned, but it’s almost certain to require an internet connection because of Denuvo
Recommended system requirements:
- Operating system: Windows 10 x64 (no version number is mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or better
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (with 4 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 470 (with 4 GB VRAM)
- DirectX: DX11
- … and Internet connection
So the game doesn’t use DirectX 12, so in principle, the game should work on older operating systems. You won’t need to do a significant upgrade to run this game. However, we don’t understand the name Radeon 550, though; what is that? There’s the RX 550, but it has 4 GB VRAM and is a newer model than the RX 470 listed in the recommended requirements.
The Settlers: New Allies will be released on February 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna.
