Giancarlo Esposito Remembers His First Strange Encounter with The Mandalorian’s Baby Yoda

MOVIE NEWS – The Mandalorian Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito recalled working with the show’s puppet Grogu and knowing he would be the star of the show.

The child. Baby Yoda. Grog. Call it what you will, but the tiny, force-wielding figure is undoubtedly the star of The Mandalorian. Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito knew this when he first encountered the practical dummy used in many scenes of the Star Wars series. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Esposito recalled his surreal first experience with Grogu, saying:

“We walked by a table and he casually said, ‘Hey, do you want to watch the Kid?’ , CGI… And I said no, that’s perfect, and then the puppeteer walked by me at that very moment. And the puppeteer said, ‘Do you want to see and talk to him?’ And I said, ‘Okay.. .” And the Child opened his eyes, turned his head, wiggled his ears, and I… You can’t take your eyes off this Child. Grogu is fascinating and mysterious and smart, and I looked at Jon and said, “Jon! He is the star of the show. And he backed away, scratched his chin and said, “You think so?”. To which I: “I know. And in every scene I’m in, I have to appear with this Child.”

The third season of The Mandalorian will arrive on Disney+ later this year, but it is not yet known what will happen to Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon. After his plan to kidnap Grogu in the Season 2 finale was thwarted by the arrival of Din Djarin, Bo Katan and Luke Skywalker, Moff Gideon is now in New Republic custody, but the actor says it won’t be long before he’s freed from his bonds and waging war again. Esposito previously spoke about working on the series:

“What I love about this series is about our military, about all of us starting to understand that we are again for the people and by the people. And if we stand up and let our voices be heard and understand that it’s in the numbers the power, then we can recreate the world as it should be, in peace, harmony, and creatively, scientifically, and politically, in a way that we understand that there are no more boundaries. The Mandalorian exemplifies all of that. This season is off the chain. You will love it.”

Fans will surely be patiently waiting for the third season of The Mandalorian and like the previous seasons, the series may break several records when it comes out. The hype has already started, with the new season of The Mandalorian expected to start on March 1, 2023 on Disney+.
