MOVIE NEWS – Deborah Ann Woll detailed her relationship with The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal and how the actor helped her make scenes better.

After starring alongside him in Daredevil Season 2 and The Punisher Season 1, Deborah Ann Woll, who played Karen Page in both Marvel Netflix series, talked about what it was like working with Jon Bernthal, who played the title character in the latter series.

Woll couldn’t help but rave about what it was like working with Bernthal, who played the most direct and ruthless version of The Punisher. Although Bernthal is a committed and intense actor, Woll made it clear how much they enjoyed working together.

During the Inside of You interview, Woll spoke about her relationship with Bernthal while working together. “I can only talk about our relationship. He was supportive. He lifted me up. He always talked about how excited he was to work with me. How he wanted me to come over and work with him on The Punisher. We would love to work together on other things in the future. I love him so much and I respect Jon.” Woll then spoke candidly about Bernthal’s open approach to the scenes. “John will read something and say, ‘Okay, he’s good, but why would I give him a gun?’ And you’re like, ‘Oh! Why would he give him a gun?’ And suddenly you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, that makes no sense!’ Then all of a sudden you have an hour on set trying to figure out what to do instead, because Jon is too good at what he does.”

Even though Frank Castle is arguably one of the most feared criminals known to the public, Page was one of the few who got to know his true face and true intentions. That’s why he always stood by her when she was in legal trouble. Having a good relationship with the people you work with can be key to making shows work as well as they do. Woll and Bernthal developed a good rapport when they worked together, which helped them play off each other as well as they did in Daredevil and The Punisher.

Bernthal has risen through the ranks as one of the modern tough guys over the past decade. From his first breakthrough role as Shane in The Walking Dead, to playing drug dealer Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, to what fans say is his best performance as Marvel anti-hero Frank Castle in The Avengers. As a result, Bernthal landed prominent roles in more popular films such as Ford vs. Ferrari, Baby Driver, and The Many Saints of Newark. While not all projects were uniformly well-received, Bernthal’s performances were never considered part of the problem.

With Bernthal rumored to be returning as Castle in the MCU, many are wondering if he will be in the same setting or if there are plans to use him differently. What sets the character apart from other Marvel characters is that he enjoys killing people who pose a threat. Will the MCU make his character more family-friendly? If so, it might be in their best interest to bring Woll’s Karen Page back with her to bring that optimism, as Netflix did.
