CINEMA NEWS – Horror film legend John Carpenter really, really likes Dead Space. The director of The Thing, Halloween and Escape From New York has talked a lot about it before. And amid his love for the series, Carpenter may have inadvertently hinted at a film adaptation before it ever officially saw the light of day.
In a Variety interview, the publication poked Carpenter about his previous comments about wanting to make a Dead Space movie. In response, Carpenter pretty significantly backed off the idea of him being involved, but ended up revealing that “another director” was also involved… suggesting that one even exists.
“I’m a big video game fan, so I’ve played all the [Dead Space] games,” Carpenter said. “I was down there looking at the new digital cameras, RED, and I happened to mention to them that I’d love to do a ‘Dead Space’ movie. It just went around and everyone was like, ‘Oh, when are you going to do it? and?’. I’m not going to do it. I think they already have another director. And I haven’t been asked to do it. So until someone asks, I wouldn’t do it. But in January, the new version of the video game ‘Dead Space’ comes out, and I I’ll be there.”
It sounds like even if he’s not directing, Carpenter will be the focus as a fan of both the upcoming game and the film adaptation, which may or may not be in the works. Elsewhere in the same interview, he said that a “perfect day” for him consists of getting up late, watching the news, playing a video game, playing basketball, and going to bed. Sounds pretty good.
Carpenter won’t have to wait much longer. The Dead Space remake is scheduled for release on January 26, 2023. The official launch trailer was released just yesterday.
