Microsoft is updating the selection of games available through the Xbox Game Pass service, adding two of the most acclaimed RPGs ever made to the lineup.
The latest update to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service has added Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, two of the highest-rated role-playing games ever made. New games are added to Xbox Game Pass on a regular basis, but it’s not every day that new games are so highly regarded.
For a long time, the Persona games were exclusive to the PlayStation console and were stuck on old hardware. Atlus has finally decided to bring Persona to multiple platforms, with the award-winning Persona 5 Royal joining Xbox Game Pass last year. Now that RPG fans have had plenty of time to check out Persona 5 Royal via Game Pass, Atlus has released Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden to the masses.
Persona 3 Portable was originally released for the Sony PSP handheld console in 2010 and featured many improvements over the original PS2 version of the game. This game kicked off the Persona franchise’s success, earning an impressive overall score of 89 on review aggregator Metacritic. Persona 4 Golden, meanwhile, earned even more praise. Originally released for the PlayStation Vita, Persona 4 Golden holds an impressive overall score of 93 on Metacritic and is actually one of the highest rated video games of all time.
In standard Persona fashion, both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are massive games that require a significant investment of time to complete. Those hoping to complete Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden fully will need to invest hundreds of hours, the games add significant value to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Needless to say, Xbox Game Pass subscribers should get their money’s worth and more for the Persona games.
Adding Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden to Xbox Game Pass means subscribers to the service can play all three of the latest Persona games. This will no doubt create new Persona fans on Xbox, so it will be interesting to see if the inevitable Persona 6 will be a multi-platform release straight away, or will be a PlayStation exclusive for a while like its predecessors.
While there’s enough content between Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden to keep Xbox Game Pass subscribers busy for months, we can expect even more this week. And Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise joined Xbox Game Pass on January 20th, so this week promises to be particularly exciting for subscribers.
