Orlando Bloom is set to tackle the lead role in the psychological thriller, The Cut. The film, directed by Sean Ellis and written by Justin Bull, is based on the story of Mark Lane and is slated to start production in Nevada this summer. Bloom, who recently starred in Pirates of the Caribbean and Carnival Row, is also co-producing the film through a partnership with Owl’s Adam Karasick and Tea Shop Productions’ James Harris and Mark Lane. The Exchange will be handling global sales of the film at the European Film Market in Berlin, in collaboration with WME Independent for domestic sales. Local investors have shown significant interest in the project.
Nat McCormick of The Exchange praised Ellis’ work and called him the perfect director for the film, stating “We are beyond thrilled to represent this project. Sean’s track record as an inventive and dynamic director, coupled with Orlando’s planned full-body transformation, promise an incredible cinematic ride.”
The film follows the story of a retired boxer, played by Bloom, who comes out of retirement to fight for a championship title. This decision leads him down a dangerous path of a grueling weight loss program with an oppressive coach, causing him to become estranged from his loved ones and lose touch with reality. The actor recently finished filming for Gran Turismo and will soon return to the small screen as Rycroft Philostrate in the second season of Prime Video’s Carnival Row.
Orlando Bloom will be joining a star-studded lineup at this year’s European Film Market, including Nobody Nothing Nowhere with Octavia Spencer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lucy Liu, Girl From The North Country with Olivia Colman, Woody Harrelson, and Tosin Cole, Floodplain with Ben Foster, Justice Smith, Katherine Waterston and Maria Bakalova, Riddick: Furya with Vin Diesel, The Riker’s Ghost with Liam Neeson, and many more.
