The Ukrainian studio cannot keep the previously planned release date for the remake of the 2007 game.
We’ve previously reported on how Frogwares had a poignant take on how difficult it is to live a traditional life in Ukraine these days, with the Russian war against them very often disrupting the routine and requiring a response to the siren of airstrikes instead of checking the code. That is reasonable: human life is more important, and who knows when this situation will end.
A new video from Frogwares describes the situation and why the Kyiv-based studio had to postpone their understandably small project due to the war. Sergiy Oganesyan, Frogwares’ head of publishing, said, “We had been trying so hard to make our planned release window, but the continual interruptions to power on top of the frequent missile attacks since October meant we had to replan and reschedule almost every month. We’re now at the spot where the game is content complete, so we need to move into doing the final QA, polishing, and launch setup. To say we are tired of how much all this has derailed our day-to-day work since the start of winter is an understatement. But we’re doing our best to push on. Once we feel we are maybe a month away from release, we’ll be able to announce our full release date with an exact day.”
Don’t forget that Frogwares isn’t alone: if it weren’t for the Russian invasion, GSC Game World could have released S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for Xbox Series and PC long ago, and perhaps 4A Games would be in a better position with the new Metro game, which we wrote about the other day could be released next year (and we reported earlier that the war would affect the style and tone of the game).
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, possibly this summer (just a guess on our part).
