It seems to be becoming a trend lately for developers to announce a release month (even if the game is only a few months away from arrival) rather than a precise date.
First, let’s start with Layers of Fear. We didn’t mistype it: the game previously called Layers of Fears has been renamed! So Bloober Team’s game will be called Layers of Fear, which isn’t too confusing since the February 2016-launched title was released under the same name. (The new Forza will also be called Forza Motorsport, so that’s becoming a trend.) The Polish studio has announced that Layers of Fear will be released sometime in June for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam), and the studio has also released a new video from the survival horror to accompany the announcement.
We posted this during Gamescom last August: “New content is the focus of the trailer embedded below. The Final Note focuses on Painter’s Wife, a desperate musician. So this isn’t Layers of Fear reimagining the original Layers of Fear story, as we haven’t heard this story yet. There’s also a hint of a new location in the video embedded below. This location will help to tie the story of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 together as it dives deeper into how the two seemingly separate events are connected.
Here’s the game’s overview: “Layers of Fears is a first-person, psychological-horror game set in the early 20th century that explores the lives and tragedies of a madness-engulfed family and their slow descent into insanity. This is a journey heavily influenced by the many lenses of art, starting with Victorian painting and slowly unraveling into the worlds of music and film. This game builds on the foundations of the franchise’s previous entries and works as a re-imagination of the overall narrative structure connecting them all. Layers of Fear will serve as a nexus where the revised stories of the original Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 merge into a single unified experience that is expanded with the addition of new original chapters.
A chronicle of the Layers of Fear franchise (Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2) enhanced with Unreal Engine 5’s improved technology. This version offers a more immersive horror experience with the addition of Ray Tracing, HDR, 4K resolution, and the Lumen system. Explore the environment to uncover the chilling tales of the Painter and the Actor and discover new, expanded plot lines that delve deeper into the fear. Your world may change with the slightest of provocations. You must decide what is real.
The mansion and ocean liner are inspired by masterpiece paintings, architecture, cinema, and décor from the 19th and 20th centuries. Numerous pieces of original art and music flesh out the story and environment, including an original score composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, conducted by George Strezov, and performed by the Sofia Session Orchestra.””
And for the Souls clone genre Lies of P, Round8 Studio and Neowiz have announced that it will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in August, as well as Xbox Game Pass, and a new video has been released. When it was announced in May 2021, we wrote: “You wake at an abandoned train station of Krat, a city overwhelmed by madness and bloodlust. In front of you lies a single note that reads: “Find Mr. Geppetto. He’s in this city.” Play as Pinocchio, a puppet mechanoid, to find this mystery person. Overcome all the calamity that awaits you. Trust no one. None can help you. You must constantly lie to others to become human.
Inspired by the familiar story of Pinocchio, Lies of P is an action souls-like game set in a cruel, dark Belle Epoque world. Humanity is lost in a once beautiful city that has become a living hell filled with screams. Lies of P offers an elegant world filled with tension, a deep combat system, and a gripping story. Lead and experience Pinocchio’s unrelenting journey toward humanity.
[…] The timeless tale of Pinocchio has been reimagined with dark and striking visuals. Set in the fallen city of Krat, Pinocchio desperately fights to become human against all odds. […] The city of Krat was inspired by the Belle Epoque Era in Europe (late 19th Century to the early 20th Century) and is the epitome of a collapsed city bereft of prosperity. […] Experience interconnected procedural quests depending on how you lie. These choices will then affect how the story ends.
[…] You can combine weapons in many ways to create something new. Research to find the best combinations and make something extraordinary. […] With Pinocchio being a doll, you can change parts of his body to gain new skills and hopefully an edge in battle. But not all of the enhancements are for fighting, though. They can also provide several other unique and valuable features.”
So there will be games to play in the summer.
