MOVIE NEWS – After being postponed until 2023 last year, the release date for Martin Scorsese’s new film with Leonardo DiCaprio, Killers of the Flower Moon, is now set.
Killers of the Flower Moon, the upcoming Martin Scorsese film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, finally has an official release date set for this autumn. After working with Netflix on The Irishman, Scorsese’s next film, a historical western epic, will see the director team up with Apple TV+. The film also marks Scorsese’s highly anticipated reunion with frequent collaborator DiCaprio. In addition, his other favourite, Robert De Niro, will also return.
According to a new report from IndieWire, Killers of the Flower Moon will officially hit major theatres on Friday, October 6, before a wide release on Apple’s service on Friday, October 20.
It was previously reported that the film would debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May. It is not known if that is still the case.
Set in the 1920s and based on a true story, Killers of the Flower Moon follows an FBI investigation led by a young J. Edgar Hoover into the murder of members of the Osage Nation in northeastern Oklahoma. The murders take place after oil is discovered on their land. The western crime drama boasts a massive budget of reportedly $200 million. It was shot mainly in Oklahoma.
With DiCaprio and De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon boasts an impressive cast. Among others, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser. Last autumn, the latter shared a moving recollection of his reunion with DiCaprio.
Many details about Killers of the Flower Moon are still unknown, but Gladstone previously revealed that the Osage Nation’s feedback has positively influenced the film.
A trailer or teaser could be released in the coming weeks. This will finally give us a clearer idea of what to expect from the long-awaited film and DiCaprio’s performance. In fact, many questions remain unanswered about the movie. But at least audiences now know when to expect the next film from one of Hollywood’s most iconic directors.
