A possible release window for the rumoured remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has been revealed, much to the delight of MGS fans.
Various rumours about a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater have been circulating the internet for years. However, fans waiting for an update have received some exciting news today. The rumoured remake of MGS 3 may arrive much sooner than initially thought.
The series has built up a loyal fanbase in the decades since its inception, but most fans idolise the father of the franchise, Hideo Kojima, rather than Konami, the Japanese company owning the rights to MGS and is responsible for publishing the series.
Kojima and Konami had a nasty falling out at the end of 2015, following the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Since then, the stealth-action franchise has taken an extended break, with the exception of the poorly received spinoff Metal Gear Survive, released in 2018.
While most fans were aware that this remake was in development, a recent revelation has reignited interest in the project. According to VGC’s Andy Robinson, gamers can expect the MGS 3 remake to be unveiled around E3 this summer. The planned release date is sometime in 2024. In addition to the MGS 3 remake, other Metal Gear Solid games are reportedly in the pipeline for a remake. It is unclear which games will be re-released and in what format.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was initially released in 2004 and was widely praised for its innovative gameplay mechanics and compelling story. The remake is expected to feature updated graphics, improved game mechanics and possibly some new content. As excited as MGS fans are about the project, some are understandably wary of a remake of MGS 3 under Konami’s direction. Especially given the company’s recent performance. The publisher has gained a bad reputation over the past decade. Many fans accuse it of mishandling the Silent Hill franchise and the Castlevania IP.
Konami’s decision to work with Bloober Team Team to develop a remake of Silent Hill 2 was also greeted with scepticism when it was announced late last year.
Despite the concerns, there is still hope that the MGS 3 remake will be worthy of the IP. With a planned release date of 2024, fans will have to wait a little longer to see if the remake lives up to expectations. Until then, we can only hope that Konami will take the necessary steps. It’s in everyone’s interest that the Metal Gear Solid franchise gets the respect and care it deserves.
