TECH NEWS – Let’s not exaggerate: it could be the Skynet from the Terminator movies.
Artificial intelligence will be a buzzword (a term that often pops up in technological terms, like the metaverse was last year) in 2023 that we’ll see everywhere. In some places, there is room for improvement (Square Enix’s attempt on Steam, which the Japanese company is treating as a tech demo). Still, in others, the results are getting scarily good, and many countries want to regulate it (e.g., Ireland), while in others, it is already banned (Italy).
We’ve seen Spot from Boston Dynamics: the robot dog has defended Pompeii or danced to rock’n’roll, but now it’s got ChatGPT. The OpenAI technology has been complemented by a relatively poor TTS (text-to-speech) solution courtesy of Google, but Spot can directly speak thanks to it. Santiago, a machine/deep learning engineer, posted a video on Twitter showing how the robodog has come so far. He had to be taught specific phrases to give relevant information, so it was not just a simple installation.
We can also see the team programming yes/no gestures. As we said before, the voice of Google TTS is not the best, but we can’t complain about the yes/no reactions. However, as Santiago explains, this idea has a benefit, as these robots are on a daily mission to collect data because it can’t simply be converted into information. With the ChatGPT integration, the team can ask direct questions to pre-programmed commands and receive the answers in real-time. So, data processing is a valuable idea because it can take a lot of time for a trained person to process the data, and it can be a tedious task, which increases the chance of error.
Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, can complete the task in a much shorter time without mistakes, taking the burden off our shoulders, and they would not be likely to get bored or simply fail due to inattention…

We integrated ChatGPT with our robots.
We had a ton of fun building this!
