David Jaffe, the creator of God of War, has leveled serious criticism at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, calling the game’s appearance “bland” and “old looking.”
David Jaffe, known as the creator of the God of War and Twisted Metal franchises, has publicly aired his views on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Jaffe recently criticized the game, stating that its graphical representation seems “bland” and “old looking” to him.
Considering the significant success that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has enjoyed so far, breaking franchise sales records and receiving widespread critical acclaim, Jaffe’s comments might seem surprising.
Jaffe clarified that his criticism is not aimed at the quality of the game, but its visual appearance. According to the God of War creator, it is “staggering” that the game can exhibit such visual quality without receiving at least minor criticism for its visuals. He also added, however, that he does not consider the game to be bad overall.
Jaffe is not alone in criticizing the game’s graphics. Others online have noted that the game’s graphics do not reach the level of modern blockbuster games. However, most critics feel that the overall quality of the game outweighs any graphical shortcomings.
Due to the limited hardware capacity of the Nintendo Switch, many didn’t expect Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to deliver a visual spectacle. It raises the question whether critics would have been stricter if the game had been released on the next Nintendo console.
