TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based company is set to take the high-end AR headset market by storm with its first model, but Apple won’t be the only one to succeed with what it calls the Reality Pro.
We’ll know more about Apple’s AR headset in a week, as it’s set to show the world the device at WWDC. In mixed reality, Apple could be the frontrunner, even though it could cost as much as $3,000. This pricing will be out of reach for millions of consumers. Still, we’ve already written that the company plans to have around 100,000 units shipped for the year and will generate approximately $3 billion in cash flow.
Mark Gurman, writing for Bloomberg, says in his latest Power On newsletter that despite the situation, Apple will still devastate the high-end AR headset market. Meta will do well with the device: “With headsets, Apple will immediately own the upscale market — headsets that cost more than $2,000 —but Meta will remain dominant in the cheaper segment. Meta may benefit from Apple helping popularize XR, using that buzz to serve consumers who can’t afford a top-of-the-line model.”
We’ve also heard it said that Apple’s product would take about seven years to make up 10% of the company’s business, while the iPhone remains their core product that brings in the most money. Meta won’t even get much of a rival until 2025 because that’s when Apple will get to the lower price point with its second AR headset, which we’ve also written will be cheaper. By then, we might be able to see smart glasses in the shops.
Apple’s product should get a detailed introduction at WWDC 2023, along with several other products, including the iPhone 15, the new iPads, and so forth.
