Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty: The Expansion Raises System Requirements!

The game will still run on the original minimum specifications, but not as well as before, according to CD Projekt RED.

We now know when Cyberpunk 2077’s only keg will be released, and it will leave the previous console generation behind. On its website, the Polish studio says that this will also mean that PC system requirements will go up: “The changes to the minimum requirements are a reflection of our new standard of requirements, which we believe better represent the minimum PC configuration required to run the game at 1080p while maintaining an average of 30 FPS at low preset. The reason for making these changes is that updating the requirements is an important part of the game improvement process and of enhancing and adding new features.”

Even symbolically, HDD support is over. The old mechanical hard drives will still run the game, but not as well. It will be choppy. SSDs are no longer recommended but will be required. Updates will no longer be tested on HDD configurations. (We should add that a reasonable 1 TB SSD with DRAM cache can be bought for about $50…) We are already seeing the same with Starfield.

But let’s see the system requirements…

System requirements without ray tracing:

  • Minimum system requirements (low graphics preset, 1080p resolution, expected FPS: ~30):
  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64 (no version number mentioned anywhere)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB), or Intel Arc A380
  • VRAM: 6 GB
  • Free storage: 70 GB on SSD

Recommended system requirements (high graphics preset, 1080p resolution, expected FPS: ~60):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A770

Ultra system requirements (ultra graphics preset, 4K resolution, expected FPS: ~60):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or AMD Ryzen 7 7900X
  • Memory: 20 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • VRAM: 12 GB
  • Free storage: 70 GB on NVMe SSD!

System requirements for ray tracing:

  • Minimum system requirements (low RT graphics preset, 1080p resolution, expected FPS: ~30):
  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 1060, AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, or Intel Arc A750
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Free storage: 70 GB on SSD

Recommended system requirements (ultra RT graphics preset, 1080p resolution, expected FPS: ~60):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or AMD Ryzen 7 7900X
  • Memory: 20 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • VRAM: 12 GB
  • Free storage: 70 GB on NVMe SSD!

Ultra system requirements (RT overdrive graphics preset, 4K resolution, expected FPS: ~60):

  • Operating system: Windows 10 x64
  • Processor: Intel Core i9-12900 or AMD Ryzen 7 7900X
  • Memory: 24 GB RAM
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080
  • VRAM: 16 GB
  • Free storage: 70 GB on NVMe SSD!

The minimum RAM requirement is now 12 GB, and the recommended 16 GB, with the processor and graphics card also seeing a minor bump up. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on September 26.
