A two-and-a-half-minute video on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel has a comment worth pondering.
Nixxes Software, part of PlayStation Studios, has been given a 2-minute, 23-second profile video showing a brief overview of the team. The studio’s lead engineer, Coen Frauenfelder, made a statement that offers Nixxes a much more robust profile! “What we provide for the PlayStation Studios is high-quality PC ports, and we are working increasingly on creating remasters. We do not create full-blown games, but we focus on specializing in those specific areas,” Frauenfelder said.
The Utrecht-based studio has been known for its PC ports. Nixxes Software was born in 1999 to port Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver to the SEGA Dreamcast, and then went on to make PC ports for Eidos Interactive (then Square Enix): Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider 2013, Thief 2014, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Marvel’s Avengers. ..
Nearly two years ago, the previously independent studio was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment, they were behind the PC ports of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, in addition to patching Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, and their third Sony port is also handling an Insomniac Games title, with the conversion of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart coming on July 26. But what might the studio remaster? Bloodborne would be something that many people would love (so they wouldn’t have to rely on an unofficial patch to achieve 60 FPS, which requires a modded console…), and Sony could undoubtedly make a lot of money by bringing FromSoftware’s game to PlayStation 5 and then PC.
Time will tell what the Dutch ladies and gentlemen are working on.
