MOVIE NEWS – Harrison Ford doesn’t consider the character a hero – now he shares his own enlightening perspective on the nature of the character of Indiana Jones.
Harrison Ford has revealed his own unique perspective on the character of Indiana Jones. He explained why he doesn’t see the adventurous archaeologist as a typical cinematic hero. Ford first donned the leather jacket and fedora of Henry Jones Jr. in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark. He later played the role in three sequels, released in 1984, 1989 and 2008. (As well as in an episode of Young Indiana Jones, but it’s polite to keep quiet about that series.) The final act comes after a 15-year hiatus and brings Jones’ adventures to an end.
As audiences prepare for the June 30 premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how he sees the character after more than four decades.
The actor claimed that he would never use the word “hero” to describe Indiana Jones. He hopes that others see Indy as just an ordinary man who has fallen into extraordinary circumstances. As the actor himself put it:
“I don’t use the word hero at all, because I think it starts us off in the wrong direction. For years and years and years, I’ve been saying I want to play an ordinary person [in] extraordinary circumstances, who happens to behave well for the benefit of others.”
Does James Mangold have a toothache for the Star Wars secrets of Harrison Ford?!
As his time with the studio potentially draws to a close, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold has revealed that he asked Harrison Ford for Star Wars secrets about their previous project. Before taking over from franchise director Steven Spielberg, Mangold and Ford previously worked together on the 2020 adaptation of The Call of the Wild. That was produced by the director of Logan.
Their relationship on the project led to Ford recommending Mangold to Spielberg and Lucasfilm executive Kathleen Kennedy to take the helm of the latest Indiana Jones adventure.
In a recent interview, Mangold talked about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. When asked about their previous work together on The Call of the Wild, the director confirmed that he and Ford discussed several things on that set. Among them was the future of the Indiana Jones franchise. They also quizzed Han Solo’s actor to get an insight into Star Wars. Here’s what Mangold had to say about it all:
“Obviously, you can’t be doing all night shoots in the middle of the Santa Clarita Valley, waiting for lighting setups to be completed and not start interviewing Harrison Ford with crazy Star Wars questions and Indy questions. Somewhere around 2 a.m. he’d start telling stories about what they were thinking of next and what they’re working on. Little did I know it would end up being me.”
