Twitter Accuses Meta’s Newly Launched Rival Platform Of Theft!

Yesterday, it was reported that Twitter was asking for money from artificial intelligence companies using LLM (large language model). Now, Elon Musk’s social platform, which has been in a ridiculous state of flux lately, has aimed at other companies…

Meta has launched Threads, its Twitter rival (hooked to Instagram), which is not yet available in the European Union. But Elon Musk’s company is so unhappy with the microblogging platform launched by Mark Zuckerberg’s company that one of Twitter’s lawyers, Alex Spiro, has sent a letter directly to Zuckerberg, reported by Semafor.

“Dear Mr. Zuckerberg, I write on behalf of X Corp., as successor in interest to Twitter, Inc. (“Twitter”). Based on recent reports regarding your recently launched “Threads” app, Twitter has serious concerns that Meta Platforms (“Meta”) has engaged in systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property,” the letter reads. Spiro also accused Meta of hiring dozens of ex-Twitter employees with trade secrets or other confidential information and directing them to develop Threads to use Twitter’s trade secrets to accelerate Threads’ growth and expansion. Thus Meta violated state and federal laws.

Musk says competition is good, but cheating is not. Andy Stone, Meta’s communications director, wrote to Semafor that Twitter’s accusation is baseless because none of the Threads engineers worked at Twitter, so no trade secrets were used. Musk seems to have forgotten that other rival platforms (Mastodon, Bluesky) have not gone from strength to strength in the past, and he was not displeased at the time, so he essentially admitted that Threads was a real threat…

Zuckerberg said that Threads had 30 million users on day one, while Twitter (X) CEO Linda Yaccarino struck a very different tone: “On Twitter, everyone’s voice matters. Whether you’re here to watch history unfold, discover REAL-TIME information worldwide, share your opinions, or learn about others. On Twitter, YOU can be real. YOU built the Twitter community, and that’s irreplaceable. This is your public square. We’re often imitated, but the Twitter community can never be duplicated.”

However, she didn’t speak during the restrictions, so there’s that…
