Samuel L. Jackson Has a Strong Word for Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

MOVIE NEWS – Quentin Tarantino’s regular collaborator, Samuel L. Jackson, expressed his opinion about the acclaimed director’s latest film, the Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. The film, the ninth written and directed by Tarantino, was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $370 million worldwide and earning Brad Pitt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Jackson, who has worked with Tarantino on six films so far, is not in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, and most recently worked with the director in 2015’s The Despicable Eight.

In a career review interview with Vulture, Jackson spoke candidly about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. After refusing to clarify whether he’ll be in Tarantino’s next (and final) film, film critics say the longtime collaborator shared his candid critique of the 2019 Oscar-winner, criticizing its lack of diverse cast and comparing it to a Martin Scorsese classic in which he also starred. Check out what Jackson shared below:

But when I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I mean, how many black people are in that movie? Maybe three. It was like watching Goodfellas. When I was in Goodfellas, it was like me and someone else.

The careers of Jackson and Tarantino developed similarly, as they both grew up together, and both of their careers really took off after the Curtain Novel. They obviously have a strong creative bond, and since they first worked together nearly three decades ago, they could probably develop a friendship. With that in mind, many are hoping the pair will reunite for Tarantino’s tenth and final project, The Film Critic, and give their creative partnership the farewell it deserves.

However, it should be noted that while the pair don’t seem to have fallen out publicly, things may have taken a sour turn when Tarantino made some negative comments about Marvel movies and how the actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren’t really movie stars. Jackson disagreed with the MCU comments made by his longtime collaborator, and it’s possible that actor Nick Fury, who has appeared in 11 released MCU films, an upcoming series and the currently airing Secret Invasion series, was upset by Tarantino’s comments, leading to the fallout between the two.

Both men have gone on to have highly successful careers, with Jackson believed to be the highest or second highest-grossing actor of all time, and his work with Marvel is far from over with Secret Invasion. Fans of the two hope that, despite Jackson’s opinions, when Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is completed, the two men can put their troubles behind them and come together for one last iconic collaboration.
