Blizzard has responded to player complaints about an annoying Diablo 4 UI element that had unintended consequences for many.
Blizzard is addressing an issue in Diablo 4 Season 1 where players accidentally activate the Battle Pass due to a design flaw in Seasonal’s screen. The Battle Pass in Diablo 4 gives players access to currency, cosmetic items, and Season Boosts that provide faster XP gains. The issue primarily affects console players, and streamers have suggested workarounds such as adding a purchase confirmation popup and a temporary Battle Pass reset button. Blizzard has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.
Blizzard is working to fix an annoying UI issue in Diablo 4 Season 1 that caused many players to accidentally activate the Battle Pass. This was pointed out by a streamer who accidentally activated his Battle Pass in Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant while trying to access the season progress.
The Battle Pass in Diablo 4 is the first in the series, as the predecessors were not live service titles. By purchasing the Battle Pass, players gain currency that can be used to purchase cosmetics, special cosmetic items, and Season Boosts that provide faster XP gains for leveling up other characters. However, a streamer pointed out that the design of the Seasonal screen accidentally activated the Battle Pass, which Blizzard has now fixed.
Streamer Rurikhan posted a video on Twitter of them trying to check their seasonal progress in Diablo 4, but ended up activating the Battle Pass because the button to activate it is located right under the Season Journey tab. Their game immediately crashed after that, but when it restarted, the Battle Pass was already activated, apparently frustrating them. Thankfully, Diablo 4 Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher has responded and said that the developers have already addressed this issue and are releasing a temporary fix for this issue.
When a UI element is designed to trick you into clicking it, it's called a "dark pattern." IMO Blizzard needs to add a confirm button or something if they don't want to be accused of using dark patterns. Simple "confirm" pop-up would fix this.

This issue seems to affect console players the most, as opening the Seasonal tab automatically places the cursor on the “Activate Premium” button, which activates the Battle Pass. Rurikhan also called the placement of the button “malicious design”, which many players in the comments seemed to agree with. Another streamer called Rhykker explained that this UI element designed to trick players is called a “dark pattern” and that adding a purchase confirmation popup would fix it. Rurikhan also suggested adding a temporary Battle Pass reset button, but they weren’t sure if Blizzard would be able to implement it in Diablo 4 Season 1 itself.
Fans have been complaining about Diablo 4’s UI since the open beta days, where many felt the initial design and font didn’t fit the game’s environment. While this changed after full release, player criticism of the game’s user interface seems to have continued along with their complaints about most of the changes made with the Season 1 update. In response, Blizzard announced that a number of changes will be made after the Diablo 4 Season 1 patch to fix issues highlighted by the community.
Diablo 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
