Maybe Hogwarts Legacy 2 Won’t be a Real “Hogwarts Legacy 2”?

A possible sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is unlikely to be just a repetition of the school experience for several reasons.

Many Hogwarts Legacy fans are eager to see what’s next in the magical open-world RPG, with many hoping for more content or a sequel. While DLC is unlikely at this time, a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a strong possibility. However, it’s unclear how it would be implemented, which means fans won’t necessarily see a return to the Hogwarts school experience in a possible ‘Hogwarts Legacy 2′.

Recently, we heard that the Hogwarts Legacy team is working on a new high-profile AAA game, which could be another Harry Potter game. Given the massive success and popularity of Hogwarts Legacy, it would be surprising if Avalanche Software didn’t continue working on the franchise. However, with Hogwarts Legacy already largely focused on the school experience, it begs the question of what other Harry Potter fantasies the studio could explore in a sequel.

Avalanche Software’s recreation of Hogwarts Castle has received excellent feedback for its incredible level of detail, including details of the castle that were overlooked in Hogwarts Legacy. Players were able to take most of the classes, such as Herbology, Potions, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, where they learned the game’s magic and spell mechanics. Although some players wish for more classes, the game has largely covered the school experience, fulfilling most players’ Harry Potter dreams of playing as a student at Hogwarts.

It is also possible for players to return to their sixth or seventh year as Hogwarts Legacy students, but this would require giving players more things to explore and do inside and outside of Hogwarts walls to avoid repetitive gameplay, making a true sequel less likely.

The sequel may reveal several secret locations in the Hogwarts Legacy that could possibly be accessed with the help of ghosts. Iconic, off-the-beaten-path areas like the Chamber of Secrets could be on many players’ wish lists, and multiplayer missions and other activities could really spice up the experience, especially if Quidditch makes an appearance. Returning to Hogwarts, however, might offer better opportunities for players if it were done in a different and less frequent way, such as as a non-student, or in an entirely different era.

Hogwarts Castle is the centerpiece of the franchise, so it makes sense that it would appear somewhere in a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. However, it does not necessarily have to be through the eyes of the students. When players become adult witches or wizards in their chosen career, such as an Auror, they can briefly return to Hogwarts to investigate a criminal plot. The game can tie this into all of the Hogwarts Legacy endings as players deal with their legacies, ancient magic, and abandoned storerooms. A more mature, global roleplaying game can give players the opportunity to visit several iconic locations from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, such as the Ministry of Magic and Diagon Alley in London, or the MACUSA building in New York City.

There may also be references to the sequel in the game’s past, such as the Merlin Trials, a Hogwarts Legacy activity that has prequel potential. Playing as a game character or Merlin’s friend can provide insight into the mythology and the Harry Potter universe. Alternatively, the ability to shape the curriculum could fulfill the dreams of the Hogwarts school while still keeping the name of the game and highlighting important legacies. Overall, the Hogwarts Legacy sequel goes beyond simply reimagining the school experience in a number of exciting ways, so hopefully it’s trying to shake things up.
