Ubisoft: A New Leader Helms Far Cry

The new head of the IP launched nearly two decades ago, took to LinkedIn to promise good things for the franchise’s future.

Drew Holmes is now in charge of Far Cry. As one of Ubisoft’s veteran writers and narrative designers, and having held the narrative lead role on Far Cry, he is no stranger to the IP. He says the last few months have been exciting, and he is now pleased to announce that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has given him a new role. The new IP director says that great things are in the pipeline, and if you want to be part of the next evolution of this great brand, don’t hesitate to contact him.

Holmes was previously the story lead on 2019’s Far Cry: New Dawn, but his name might be familiar from other titles. Previously, he was the lead writer on BioShock Infinite at Irrational Games and worked on the first three Saints Row at Volition. Holmes’ new position means he’s now neck-deep in Far Cry 7 (‘the next evolution’ hinted at it), which is rumored to use the Snowdrop engine, meaning it could run on Massive Entertainment’s technology instead of the current Dunia engine. There are rumors of a multiplayer Far Cry project set in Alaska, which could be an extraction shooter. Both games are rumored to be released in the autumn of 2025 and will indeed be leaving the PlayStation 4/Xbox One pair by then, as in two years, they’ll be twelve years old…

Far Cry 6, released in 2021, was still a cross-gen game (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the now defunct Google Stadia were its target platforms), and it didn’t have competitive multiplayer, but instead allowed you to play through the story cooperatively. Far Cry’s previous head, Dan Hay, left Ubisoft in 2021 after a decade at the French publisher’s Montréal studio (he was the head during the franchise’s heyday, but we think 2008’s Far Cry 2 was way ahead of its time…). He’s currently at Activision Blizzard working on a new survival game for Blizzard, who should be ashamed of themselves now, as Overwatch 2 is the worst-rated game on Steam…

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
