China’s Game Science has been working on its Souls clone for over three years, so it’s time we got more information about the Journey to the West-based game.
IGN had a chance to check out a new demo of Black Myth: Wukong, which reveals details of a chapter alongside three boss fights. Some things were left out on purpose, so we don’t get to see the level-up system in the demo, but we do get to see the abilities and gear available mid-game. The combat mechanics have been overhauled, so there are more stances (Smash, Pillar, and Thrust Forms). However, we’ll also have more transformation abilities to turn into a poisonous creature or a wolf (Fireblade Wolf).
The first boss (Centipede Guai) has already appeared in a video from 2020. It’s in a cave, it can roll and punch, and it emits poison gas that slowly affects your character, and you have to use an antidote to counter it. The second (Macaque Chief) is located in a snowy landscape. Your character’s movement will affect snow accumulation, making the battle interactive. The aggression, attack range, and movement pattern will increase significantly with less health. The Tiger Vanguard boss has already appeared in a 2022 video. It is located in a bloody temple and has the highest attack speed and aggression. There will also be a hidden boss fight, the Poisonous King, who will attack you if you talk to him and then smash a “wine barrel” next to him. He’s fast and poisonous. This fight promises to be the most complex, so that it won’t be easy…
Black Myth: Wukong is now available on Steam and Epic Games Store. It will also support DLSS 3 and ray tracing on PC when it launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in Summer 2024. In the meantime, if you want to visit Gamescom (who knows, maybe someone in the Cologne area has something to do), you can try out Game Science’s game on the spot so the development could be nearing its end.
