PlayStation Plus Essential: Which Games Will Kick Off Autumn 2023? A Price Hike!

Sony has been only partially successful in preventing leaks this time (probably to at least diversify the situation, rather than the same one month after month…).

So what often happens is that billbil-kun reveals on Dealabs or Twitter (in the worst case, several days!) before Sony’s official announcement which three games PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to add to their catalog for free next month. This scenario has partially come true, as the leaker has surfaced again. Still, this time, we’re not so lucky, as billbil-kun wasn’t sure what the complete list was, so this time only one game was revealed, and as it’s a primarily fresh title, Sony is probably counting on this game as the pull title for September…

The pull title will be the Saints Row reboot from Volition (we always mention the target platforms in brackets: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4). It’s not that old a game, but the quality (you could get into anything from writing to gameplay here…) is something to consider. It can’t be called an enormous title. At this rate, they could throw Forspoken to the subscribers in a month or two. But what about the other two games? We’re going official here (so the leak wasn’t wrong). The second game is Black Desert – Traveler Edition (PlayStation 4; it’s an MMORPG), and the third is Generation Zero (PlayStation 4).

All three games will be available for free until October 2. There’s also a price increase: from September 6, Sony will make all three PlayStation Plus 12-month (i.e., annual) tiers more expensive. PlayStation Plus Essential will be €72/$80 for one year, PlayStation Plus Extra will be €126/$135, and PlayStation Plus Premium will be €152/$160.

As a reminder, we list what is still on the August list (again of questionable quality…) because you can still add them to your library until September 4 (Monday) if you have missed any. The August highlight is PGA Tour 2K23 (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4), which is only a must for golf fans. Then, there’s Dreams (PlayStation 4) from Media Molecule, made available to subscribers too late. The indie title of the month is Death’s Door (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4).

As always, the usual question must be asked: could Sony have come up with anything more substantial? PlayStation Plus Premium isn’t worth it either (the service is barely expanded with old games)…
