Baldur’s Gate 3: Larian Responds To Feedback

Cut content? Third act? The Belgian studio has responded to PC audiences on several issues.

In a new Steam post, Larian has responded to several topics. The most significant criticism of the game now is the performance in the third act and the large amount of cut (or at least unused) content found by data miners. According to the Belgian studio, the second patch will improve performance throughout Baldur’s Gate 3. The developers have promised further performance improvements during Act 3. Still, they will make these available in September, and they say this will be courtesy of “new technology that will be released later than expected.”

The second patch will also focus on bugs (and especially those that appear in the last chapter!). Our comrades do not comment on specific events, and the files related to them have been found by those who believe them to be cut content, according to Larian. As a result of the bug fix, these audio files will be applied, i.e., we will hear them. Then, the somewhat risky subject of character epilogues is mentioned. The developers felt that the ending would have been too long, so they took out elements that they felt wouldn’t have worked, but as a result of feedback, they are working to reverse it (and will start with Karlach).

“What’s been datamined is not cut content but content that we didn’t want to release because we didn’t think it worked. We’re pretty strict with ourselves and our ideas. If it isn’t good or fun to play, it doesn’t make it into the game. One of the reasons we trimmed the epilogue is because we were afraid the ending cinematics were becoming too long and would detract from the epicness of the experience. But clearly, not everyone agrees with us! So we’re going to do something about it. We’ve started expanding the epilogues, and you’ll see the first results in Patch 2 with the addition of a new optional ending with Karlach. It’s fiery, poignant, and gives her the ending she deserves,” Larian wrote.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released two years later than the original timeline. Still, it also has some cut content, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the studio’s current game, following the example of Divinity: Original Sin I-II, would eventually get an Enhanced Edition…
