It might be worth investing in a 2, maybe 4 terabyte NVMe SSD because the 825 GB of space that comes standard with PlayStation 5 is running out of room for more games.
A Twitter account called Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Countdown has reported that Insomniac Games’ next game will need more than a bit of space, and this information was found on the PlayStation 5 box for the limited edition PlayStation 5 that will be released soon. According to the box, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will need 98 GB of space. To put this in context, a PlayStation 5 Blu-ray disc, usually in BDXL format, can hold 100 gigabytes of data. In other words, the disc is almost loaded with the game’s assets (presumably 4K textures, uncompressed audio, multiple audio tracks for different languages…).
Of course, you’ll want to leave more space free on your PlayStation 5’s SSD, as there will be patches for the game, so it’s best to count 100 GB as a base. There will be two Spider-Men in the game (we didn’t put Peter and Miles in the title for nothing because you’ll be able to control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, with different abilities and missions), so double the fun essentially means double the storage.
During August, Sony released some technical details about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which were later deleted, but the internet never forgets. Insomniac Games’ game will have Fidelity and Performance graphics modes, and the former will aim for a frame rate of 30 FPS and the latter 60 FPS at different resolutions. HDR will be supported, but brightness and contrast can be adjusted, while motion blur, film grain effects, and chromatic aberration can be turned on/off.
The release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5 is October 20, so it’s one of the titles that will be hitting us in October (we’re not kidding, but there are about 6-7 more significant titles coming out this month, including the minimally delayed Alan Wake II). The earliest we can expect a PC version is 2025, knowing Sony…
