The new game from Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) hasn’t escaped the Ubisoft syndrome: compared to the pre-release visuals, Todd Howard’s game is uglier!
PlayTracker wrote on Twitter that based on their user samples if you only count Starfield Premium Edition customers, they’ve seen well over 1 million players on both Steam and Xbox. The sample data is slowly trickling in, with a slight delay, and they believe they will be watching the figurative fireworks later today (at launch). That said, there could be over 2 million players of BGS’s game already, which is a low estimate.
Aside from the press and influencers, the purchase of the $100 Premium Edition gave this group of gamers five to six days early access, as Starfield will only be available on Xbox Game Pass from today, with an update to be mentioned in the news later today. As PlayTracker wrote, the player base will grow today, as not everyone wants to spend the extra money to get early access (another unfortunate trend in the gaming industry).
Cycu1 compared the 2023 released game with the 2022 demo, and the exploration segment is different: the terrain textures in the demo reflect light much better, and the mountains behind the research lab looked slightly better. The differences in appearance are due to the lighting, and Cycu1 could not mimic the lighting conditions in Starfield’s retail version. It looked less realistic in the demo, but we still thought the game’s graphics had been dumbed down. The characters look nicer in the 2022 version, while the retail version has some slightly idiotic faces…
Starfield will be available today on Xbox Series and PC. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can also get their hands on BGS’s latest game from today, while Howard’s team is slowly getting started on The Elder Scrolls VI.
