The character who appeared in Resident Evil 2 and then the fourth installment deserves her own game.
In late September, the Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake was released, making it one of the best add-ons in the franchise’s history. In it (as in the concept that appeared as part of the game in the PS2 version), the main character is Ada Wong, who didn’t die in Raccoon City during the events of RE2. In the DLC, she’s hired by Wesker to deliver the Amber to him, but fails to do so (and in the meantime, Luis dies and Ada gets Leon out of some sticky situations), and Wesker still gets what he wants. (It sets up the events of Resident Evil 5, but that’s beside the point).
Ada’s gameplay is a little different from Leon’s in the DLC, and as a freelance mercenary, she’s not really on either character’s side (but she does have a conscience, and that’s why she didn’t blow up the whole island, even though Wesker’s orders said to). Because of her role, she could be placed in areas of the franchise that Capcom has yet to explore (she was supposed to be in Resident Evil: Village, but the Japanese developers scrapped it), so she wouldn’t always have to focus on Umbrella.
Because of her experience with the company, new villains and monsters could be introduced, but even if a spin-off were to happen, there would be a downside: she’s a rather mysterious character, so if they flesh out his past, Ada would be less mysterious in the future, and since she’s never firmly on either side, portraying her as a hero would change how we view her. However, it’s also unknown whether Capcom will count on her in the future. For example, who knows if she will have anything to do with the events of the Resident Evil 5 Remake (the end of the Separate Ways DLC may have hinted at this with Wesker’s monologue about the man’s time coming to an end).
There are positives and negatives, but a good balance could make this a great game.
