Sony hasn’t even announced that it will release a more powerful version of its current-generation console after the PlayStation 4 Pro…
The PlayStation 5 Pro will have accelerated ray tracing. We’ve heard this before, but we’re expecting more. Let’s not get carried away, as the processor is not supposed to be on a newer architecture, which sounds a bit surprising, as no matter which AMD Zen processor we’re talking about, they’re all x86 based, so it wouldn’t be as much of a departure from the norm as the PlayStation 3 was with the Cell CPU…
RedGamingTech has posted on Twitter what specs he’s heard about Sony’s “five-point-five” console. According to him, it will feature an eight-core, custom AMD Zen 2 CPU, clocked at just over 4GHz. It could have a 60-core RDNA 3-based GPU running at between 2500 and 2800 MHz. For memory, we can expect 16GB of GDDR6 at 18000 MT/s. Two, possibly four gigabytes of DDR5 RAM could be reserved for the operating system, and the Tempest engine performance could be doubled (two shader engines). Sony hasn’t specified the clock speeds yet, and won’t do so until launch, as the company is currently testing several variants of the console.
Another insider, Kepler, has already hinted on Twitter that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s processor is not based on a newer architecture, but nothing is official until the console is announced, but when we hear so many details about the specifications, we are either talking about a highly detailed hoax or reality, and at this point both could be plausible scenarios.
In October, Sony announced a new PlayStation 5 model that has been rumored for a long time. Smaller, with more storage space and a detachable Blu-ray drive, we could tune up its Digital Edition version if we change our minds and don’t go for the cheaper version. So the existence of the PlayStation 5 Pro seems plausible, and we’ll just have to wait and see… maybe in the fall of 2024, but how much will Sony charge?
