Insomniac Revealed the Connection Between Spider-Man 2 and the Upcoming Wolverine Game

Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar has discussed the connection between Spider-Man 2 and the developer’s upcoming Wolverine game, confirming that the game will be set in the same universe as Insomniac’s upcoming title The Wolverine.

Spider-Man 2 was a huge success for the developer and the PS5, with record-breaking sales and amazing critical reviews practically everywhere. With Insomniac working on projects starring various Marvel characters, fans were curious to see if and how the titles would interact.

Wolverine’s character was teased as an Easter egg in Spider-Man 2, but other than that, not much was revealed about the connection between the two games. Although both games are under the Insomniac umbrella, they are handled internally by different teams. Still, Insomniac’s history of success, especially recently on PS5, has fans excited for The Wolverine as well as future games in the Spider-Man franchise.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Spider-Man 2 creative director Bryan Intihar confirmed that the existing games are set in the same universe as The Wolverine. Intihar claimed that both games were set in the 1048 universe, before jokingly adding, “I think I got that right.” There are currently speculations that a Spider-Man 2 trailer could tease the location of Wolverine, but Intihar only said that the games are set in the same universe.

Based on the creative director’s comments, it looks like both games will be set in the same universe, but initially it doesn’t look like there will be too much crossover. When asked about Spider-Man 2’s apparent absence of Wolverines, Intihar said the move was intentional. He focused on making a great Spider-Man game while letting Team Wolverine “cook”.

Especially in the early stages, there are arguments for Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Wolverine series to remain separate despite being set in the same universe. Both characters are very different tonally, and while fans are pretty familiar with Insomniac’s versions of Peter and Miles, the studio’s vision for Logan is still a mystery.

By the way, Insomniac may have other Marvel projects. There have been rumors that Insomniac is working on a third game based on a Marvel Comics property, and Spider-Man 2’s narrative director has spoken about a possible Venom spin-off game. Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, since The Wolverine will probably wait another year or two. However, based on the studio’s success so far, many fans hope that Insomniac will eventually try adapting other popular comic book characters.
