Will Grand Theft Auto VI Include Lifelike, Varied Animations?

Rockstar Games’ long-awaited game will reportedly feature a unique animation system.

Grand Theft Auto VI also has a subreddit, which is no big surprise. Here, one user, Tobbelobben, shared a patent filed by Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Last year there was a leak about a unique animation system. It contains a library of small elements that make up the movement of characters, and by combining them, you can create a wider range of animations. As a result, we can experience a more lifelike and varied movement culture.

Even simple animations, such as walking, will have many possible variations. They can also be affected by different weather conditions, so if it’s raining, for example, a character might walk differently than if it’s a hot day. The system was also included in the previously leaked Grand Theft Auto VI build, and Tobbelobben says it will be used by NPCs, not just the main characters. So it’s not out of the question that the new GTA could be one of the most immersive open world games ever.

Not much has been officially announced by Rockstar about Grand Theft Auto VI, but it’s safe to say that GTA 5 has been out for over a decade for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but since then it’s been released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and there’s also been a PlayStation 5, Xbox series re-release. GTA V was followed by Red Dead Redemption 2, which was a huge graphical leap forward, and we’ve heard that the graphical leap will be even bigger in Grand Theft Auto VI.

The release date for the new GTA is not yet known, but the release date is likely to be in the next fiscal year, which means it could arrive between April 2024 and March 2025. Presumably it will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox series first, and only after that we can expect a PC port, as this is the approach Rockstar and Take-Two have taken with their new games lately.
