TECH NEWS – While Apple is investing heavily in generative artificial intelligence technology, Samsung is looking at OpenAI/Microsoft’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.
We’ve previously reported that Apple’s GPT (likely to be renamed) could arrive in iOS 18, while the Cupertino company is working on several features that will require generative AI. Apple CEO Tim Cook said during one of their financial reports that they are putting a lot of money into the technology to compete with the industry leaders. Samsung is also planning to implement similar technology in its Galaxy branded smartphones, but instead of an in-house solution, the South Korean company is looking to partner with Microsoft and Google.
Live Voice in iOS 17 and Fall Detection in the Apple Watch are features that are already based on artificial intelligence, but the company wants more. For example, there is a lot of potential for generative AI in the messaging app (Messages) and assistant (Siri): “When we shipped iOS 17, it included features like Personal Voice and Live Voicemail. AI is at the heart of these features. You can go all the way down to the life-saving features on the watch and phone, like fall detection, crash detection and ECG on the watch. These would not be possible without AI. We don’t label them as such because we’ve labelled them according to their consumer value, but the fundamental technology behind them is AI and machine learning,” Cook said.
On Twitter, Revegnus wrote that if Samsung creates a successful AI smartphone (Galaxy S series), it will be able to regain the leading position in the market, i.e. it could once again beat Apple’s sales. Meanwhile, Cook claims that Apple’s approach to generative AI will be cautious and responsible, so it will be heavily guarded in terms of user data and privacy, and additional features will be added over time.
Samsung’s task will not be easy. Even if they increase the Galaxy S24’s production by 10%.
