MOVIE NEWS – Based on the trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, it looks like this will be the film in which the younger characters officially replace the original Ghostbusters team…
Based on the trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, it looks like the franchise is ready to replace the original team with the younger characters introduced in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise will be released on March 29, 2024. All indications are that the cast from the original films will be handing over the baton to the new characters who debuted in the previous films. The Frozen Empire trailer expands on everything we know about the Afterlife sequel and gives us a glimpse into the new threat.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife introduced Callie Spangler (Carrie Coon) – daughter of original Ghostbuster Egon Spangler – and her two children, Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (McKenna Grace).
The family was struggling with serious financial problems. They moved to rural Oklahoma after inheriting Egon’s farm. That’s when they met science teacher Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) and began to uncover Egon’s secrets on the farm. Among them was a Gozer temple linked to the spirits of Gozer and Zuul. By the film’s end, the original team, including Egon’s manifested ghost, had fought off the threat and saved the Spangler family.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer confirms the new Ghostbusters team
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, all of the new characters play a significant role. Occasionally revealing a part of Egon’s past or discovering some of his old Ghostbusting tools. But when it came to confronting Gozer, Zuul and the other Oklahoma ghosts, the original Ghostbusters arrived to eliminate the threat.
The original team returns once again in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but the trailer primarily shows Callie, Trevor, Phoebe and Gary in uniform, actively fighting the ghosts.
At the end of the trailer, the cast of Afterlife is wearing official Ghostbusters uniforms, suggesting that they have been placed in the front line of Ghostbusters. Perhaps they will take the place of the original team. Ray Stantz (Dan Akroyd), Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) appear to be playing advisory roles this time around. (Although they do show up in uniform.) The new characters, however, are seen in their original ’80s uniforms, as well as updated orange Ghostbusters suits. All of this probably represents the new team at the forefront.
