MOVIE NEWS – The Terminator returns, but this time in animated form on Netflix! The fresh new series, ‘Terminator: The Anime Series’, brings a new twist to the classic sci-fi story with the time travel of a female soldier. The series reimagines familiar story threads, showing that there’s still something new in the Terminator universe.
So far, the Terminator saga has mainly been notable for James Cameron’s first two films and The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, after which it hasn’t really managed to produce a worthy sequel. Of all the films made since Judgment Day, the most recent, Dark Doom, also failed in its attempt to recreate the earlier successes. Now, however, Netflix is at the starting line with an animated series that follows a female soldier on a past mission to save the life of a scientist. This twist could offer a new perspective for the franchise.
In the series, the clash between Skynet and humanity enters a new dimension with the mission of a female soldier who travels back to 1997 to protect scientist Malcolm Lee, who is developing an AI system against Skynet. In the story, Malcolm Lee struggles with moral dilemmas while on the trail of a future assassin who, in the story, changes the lives of three children. Fans are hopeful that the series could be a success, as it focuses on a female character, which could provide a new perspective.
The synopsis for the series reads:
“For years, a devastating war has raged between a handful of human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI Skynet awakens and wages war on humanity. In the crossfire between the future and the past, a soldier is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee, who is working to create an AI system to counter an imminent attack by Skynet. While Malcolm tries to cope with the complex moral issues that his work raises, he is also hunted by a relentless assassin from the future, changing the fate of his three children forever.”
The series’ creators include names such as Wes Ball, Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto, while production is being handled by Skydance and Production I.G, who have a proven track record with Kill Bill and Ghost in the Shell animations. Mattson Tomlin, who is currently working on the script for Batman 2, will write and showrunner the series. A sorozatról további részletek még váratnak magukra, de az előzetesek már ígéretesnek tűnnek.
