In Europe, Xbox Series console sales fell 52% year-over-year, while PS5 sales rose 143%…

Xbox Series sales in Europe fell significantly compared to last year. However, at the same time, sales of the PS5 experienced a significant increase.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that this data comes from the GSD European video game tracking chart. Console hardware data includes sales figures for Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The Xbox Series X and Series S aren’t the only platforms with sales down compared to October last year. Nintendo Switch sales were also 20% lower than last October’s figures.

Due to the abundant supply, PS5 sales increased by 143% this October compared to last year, while sales of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S decreased by 52%. Following the successful release of Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, PS5 and Nintendo Switch sales are up 11% and 10%, respectively, compared to September 2023. Meanwhile, Xbox Series sales were down roughly 20% from the previous month.

It will be interesting to see how consoles from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft fare this month with the various discounts due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

In terms of software sales in Europe, EA Sports FC 24 was the best-selling game of October 2023. Assassin’s Creed Mirage followed this. Insomniac Spider-Man 2 takes the 3rd place. However, it should be noted that this game was released two weeks earlier than Spider-Man and is also a multi-platform title. Looking at individual Spider-Man 2 sales in Europe, sales were 30% higher than 2018’s Spider-Man on PS4. They are nearly three times higher than 2020’s Miles Morales (PS5 and PS4).

If we compare the sales of Spider-Man 2 and God of War: Ragnarök in the first two weeks, we can see that Spider-Man 2 sold 28% less. However, it should be noted that Ragnarök also launched on PS4. As a matter of fact, Spider-Man 2 was able to beat Ragnarök by 8% if you only consider PS5 sales after two weeks on sale (in Europe*).
