[TGA 2023] Final Fantasy XVI: One DLC Out, Another One Coming [VIDEO]

Square Enix has played a little trick, as the Japanese publisher has made one of the two DLCs available immediately…

We reported earlier that Final Fantasy XVI would be getting a content update. Although a PC port of the PlayStation 5 exclusive is already in the works (it could have been released before Christmas, as Sony has secured six months of exclusivity), we still only have Sony’s console to rely on. The Echoes of the Fallen DLC has already appeared on the PlayStation Store for $10.

Here’s the DLC’s synopsis: “As the sun sets over the land of Valisthea, strange, dark crystals begin to circulate on the black market. Could they be the sinister fruit of a long-dormant Mothercrystal – one the world never knew existed? In search of answers, Clive and company encounter a group of suspicious traders. Their trail leads them to a long-abandoned fallen tower known as the Sagespire, and the terrible secrets that await within…”

Of course, you can’t start the DLC right away. You’ll need to open Origin on the World Map and complete the quests Where There’s a Will and Priceless. Now, these two are the 9th and 10th sidequests in the 67th and penultimate main quest, so you’re essentially playing through Final Fantasy XVI, so don’t put any money in your wallet until you’ve completed Clive’s story (prepare a week’s worth of food for that).

As a bonus, you get Cloud Strife’s legendary sword (Buster Sword) from Final Fantasy VII, and a new song (Away (1987) Orchestrion Roll) plays in the background in the hideout. However, there was no mention of the second DLC, The Rising Tide. It will be released in spring, and will probably cost $20, as the Expansion Pass with both DLCs can be bought for $25, and a la carte is usually more expensive…
