MOVIE NEWS – Announced at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Sonic 3 team have now announced that they’re really going to take on the hedgehog’s fierce adversary, Shadow. A photo was posted on the film’s X (formerly Twitter) page, showing Shadow’s fists and shoes in the company of a ticking trap. Shadow gets his name from the fact that he’s a kind of dark counter-Sonic: an evil copy of the good hedgehog, an artificially created creature who is, of course, plotting a diabolical scheme.
Work on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been halted by the big Hollywood actors’ strike, but Digital Spy has learned that the crew did some work: they shot scenes without actors because they didn’t fall under the mandatory work stoppage. Now they’re back at it, and the creators have only one regret: Jim Carrey, who previously played Dr. Robotnik, the mad scientist, will not be joining the team, as he has taken an indefinite retirement from acting.
However, the producers of the film had no idea of hiring another actor to replace Carrey. “Jim Carrey is a perennial member of the Sonic family, and his character is so intertwined with the character of Dr. Robotnik that no one else can replace him,” producer Neal H. Moritz told IGN. – We hope that Jim will return one day, because I don’t think he can leave this classic character behind.”
Moritz’s charisma is sorely missed, but they needn’t worry about being without a main villain, as there are just enough negative characters left in Sonic’s galaxy. Like Shadow, who has already signed up for the game.
