Skyblivion Developer Isn’t Against The Relaunched Creations’ Paid Mods

He sees nothing wrong with those who support the program.

When Creations was first introduced by Bethesda, Skyrim’s vibrant modding community was divided. Many people promised they would never join so as not to have a paid mod, while others went in that direction (even people who had released several free mods up to that point).

One of them, Elianora, told VG247 that many are lagging behind because nowadays content creators are often paid for their work: “When Oblivion and Morrowind modding started (and earlier Fallouts), we didn’t have PayPal or Patreon, and Ko-Fi wasn’t a thing. I think people got used to everything being free, and people made content because they wanted to make it, and when new ways for content creators to get paid for their work came along, the Bethesda modding hivemind didn’t quite catch up.

The opportunity to work on things I love with some of the most phenomenal developers in the industry and get paid for it is just too good to pass up. Creations can be a huge opportunity for many of the community’s best creators to earn a steady income instead of the occasional donation from a grateful fan and get their foot in the door with Bethesda and the gaming industry,” said Elianora.

And WCCFTech talked to Rebelzize, the leader of the Skyblivion project planned for 2025, and he agrees with Elianora: “I’m with Elianora on this one. Although I’ve never paid for a mod directly, and probably never will because I’m a cheapskate, I do support people being able to monetize their work. We have already seen this in the form of Ko-Fi, Patreon, and good old PayPal donations, all of which I have used or currently use to support mod authors who create mods that I use or have used a lot. I don’t mind supporting mod authors at all, but I’ll probably pass on paid mods unless something crazy comes along that I think is absolutely worth the money. After all, it’s the modder’s right to get paid for his work, just as it’s the user’s right not to buy it.

The fact is that there was no monetization before…
