The Sony studio that was hit by a ransomware attack (and therefore didn’t pay the attackers) must have a red face at the end of the year, because we’ve learned a lot about its plans.
The other day we detailed Insomniac Games’ plans for the next 7-8 years, but we also talked about the sales of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 first-party games until the end of 2021. With more than 1600 gigabytes of data leaked to the dark web, we’ll probably have more to report in the coming days. Right now, for example, we’re talking about the studio’s next PC port and a possible release window for it.
User Aquamarine posted about the documents on the Install Base forum. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has already been released on PlayStation 5, will also be coming to PC, and we’ve also learned the cost to make the port, along with their other ports. The budget to port the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales from console to PC is $4.6 million. That’s not a lot, but it’s still double the budget of the first game’s port! This will be the studio’s most expensive PC port, with development to be completed in the fiscal year ending March, so it will probably be released in the following quarter, April at the earliest.
It should be added that Insomniac Games generally tries to give PC gamers the full experience, so don’t expect a PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 until all the DLC is released for PlayStation 5. The third major installment (because there will be one) could be coming to PC in fiscal year 2027 (which runs from April 2026 to March 2027), with a budget of around $7 million. Of course, this could change significantly, as who knows how inflation and external factors will affect the gaming market and industry.
So they’re trying not to rush the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is good because we also wrote in the news yesterday that PC versions of Sony’s games are selling less and less…
