Steam’s Upcoming Game Brings Anime Flair to Stardew Valley-Esque Farming with Shape-Shifting [VIDEO]

Tales of Seikyu, a fresh farming simulation game developed by ACE Entertainment, infuses the genre with an anime twist.

ACE Entertainment has unveiled Tales of Seikyu as a new entrant in the anime-styled farming simulation arena, integrating the unique feature of transforming into various “yokai” forms as a key gameplay element. Recently, the genre of farming simulations has skyrocketed in popularity, largely thanks to the success of fan favorites like Stardew Valley and the Harvest Moon series. Major game developers have also ventured into this field, introducing their twists to the beloved genre – notable examples include Square-Enix’s Harvestella and Sega’s Like A Dragon: Ishin! where farming elements are incorporated as mini-games. ACE Entertainment’s latest offering in farming simulations adds a mythological layer to the genre.

While games like Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons originally popularized the farming sim genre, Stardew Valley emerged as a monumental success within it. The immense acclaim received by the 2016 indie farming sim, created by solo developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone, has sparked a wave of modern farming games, significantly boosting the sub-genre’s prominence. Indie game creators, in particular, have gravitated towards this genre, producing successful titles such as Roots of Pacha and Coral Island. Now, with Tales of Seikyu, the farming gameplay ventures into a realm inhabited by yokai.

The debut trailer of Tales of Seikyu offers players a first glimpse into the game, highlighting shapeshifting into various entities as a major gameplay mechanic. Players can transform into different animals and mythical beings for farming tasks, like tilling the soil as a boar or soaring as a crow spirit. Beyond farming, Tales of Seikyu’s trailer reveals diverse gameplay aspects including cooking, romance options, and even an elaborate combat system. Additionally, Tales of Seikyu plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for funding, set to begin on January 12th. Source: GameRant
