Fans of Ubisoft games should keep January 25 in mind as it will be a sombre day for the publisher. In addition, EA is also preparing for a similar purge in the near future…
January 25 will be a sad day for fans of Ubisoft games. Because the servers of ten addresses are down on this day! It’s always sad when a video game company confirms that the servers for their games are going down. EA maintains an ongoing list of upcoming shutdowns (see below). Now, Ubisoft has also given fans some advance notice of the games that will be discontinued shortly.
The unfortunate reality of online gaming is that game servers will eventually go down. Sometimes, it’s not that big of a deal, but other times, entire game modes become entirely inaccessible and practically lost forever. This is devastating for those who care about the preservation of their video games, but unfortunately, nothing can be done about it. Hardware evolves, new games come out, and there are always only so many players who can play online multiplayer games.
With that in mind, Ubisoft fans might want to prioritise checking out the online features of the company’s ten games that will shut down on January 25.
Specific platforms vary, but Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Heroes of Might and Magic 6, NCIS, RUSE, Splinter Cell Conviction and Trials Evolution’s online services will both shut down on January 25.
List of Ubisoft game server shutdowns on January 25:
- Xbox 360: Assassin’s Creed 2 – Xbox 360
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – MAC
- Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations – PC
- Ghost Recon Future Soldier – PC
- Heroes of Might and Magic 6 – PC
- NCIS – PC
- R.U.S.E. – PC
- Splinter Cell: Conviction – Xbox 360
- Trials Evolution – PC
For some Ubisoft games, online features weren’t central to the experience anyway. Like Assassin’s Creed 2 single-player on Xbox 360. In other cases, server outages will be much more damaging. For example, in the case of Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
Ghost Recon Future Soldier features various online multiplayer modes that will be discontinued once the servers are shut down on January 25.
Something else Ubisoft fans should remember: the suspensions also mean that Ubisoft accounts cannot be linked to these games. Ubisoft Connect rewards can no longer be claimed either. Anyone interested in the Connect Rewards or the online features associated with these games should be sure to play them between now and January 25.
Cleaning up around the EA Games house
As of this writing, EA has announced eight games that will lose their online service in 2024. As players switch to new games and hardware evolves, EA will shut down online servers and related features for some of its games.
In fact, on December 8, 2023, EA just wrapped up its seven games. Online services for Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst were also down on this day.
This effectively means that some game modes associated with these games, such as Dead Space 2’s multiplayer mode, are gone forever, which is disappointing, to say the least.
While it’s always sad when EA shuts down its games’ online servers, at least the company usually gives fans significant advance notice before pulling the plug. Because of this, fans already know about eight EA games that will be discontinued in 2024. Seven of these games will be shut down on March 21. On March 21, 2024, the online servers for F1 2011, F1 2012, F1 2013, F1 2014, F1 Race Stars, Micromachines World Series, and Rocket Arena will also be down. The eighth game that EA has confirmed will lose its online services in 2024 is Madden NFL 20, which will be shut down on April 15.
EA Games discontinued in 2024:
- F1 2011 – March 21
- F1 2012 – March 21
- F1 2013 – March 21
- F1 2014 – March 21
- F1 Race Stars – March 21
- Micromachines World Series – March 21
- Rocket Arena – March 21
- Madden NFL 20 – April 15
It is likely that F1 games will be stopped due to expiring licenses. In fact, all F1 games that will lose their online service on March 21, 2024, have already been delisted. This meant that new players couldn’t play them unless they managed to track down physical copies. As for the other games, the shutdown of Rocket Arena has been a long time coming. Because the live service game did not receive any significant new updates shortly after its release. With the fact that it was a premium edition despite the free-to-play setting, it condemned itself to death from the start. Not to mention that Rocket Arena has already been removed from the list.
Sports games like Madden NFL 20 get shut down so regularly that fans are probably used to it.
It should be noted that it’s entirely possible that EA will discontinue more games than the ones listed here. For now, though, EA fans only have March 21 and April 15 to worry about.
