MOVIE NEWS – Ridley Scott is reportedly in talks to direct the Bee Gees movie at Paramount.
Ridley Scott is set to produce the currently untitled Bee Gees movie with Graham King at GK Films, Stacey Snider and Michael Pruss Scott Free. John Logan, who wrote Scott’s 2000 epic Gladiator, will pen the screenplay.
The film is distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures, with Amblin and SISTER having co-financing rights. Barry Gibb, the last surviving sibling, will executive produce. Brothers Maurice and Robin died in 2003 and 2012 respectively.
Telling the story of the Bee Gees on the big screen has come a long way – Kenneth Branagh was previously set to direct a biopic for Paramount in 2021.
John Carney stepped in as director in March 2022. But he left due to timing issues. He was replaced by Hustlers director Lorene Scafaria in December 2022.
The story of the legendary trio of the Gibb brothers was most recently featured in the 2020 documentary series The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
The sequel to Scott’s Gladiator, starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, hits theatres on November 22. Her previous credits include Napoleon, House of Gucci, Thelma & Louise and Black Hawk Down. (To name a few of the most important ones…) Scott was nominated for five Oscars, and his film The Martian won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. He is repped by WME.
Paramount’s latest music biopic, Bob Marley: One Love, hit theatres this week. It opened with $14 million in US theatres on Valentine’s Day and grossed $19.4 million globally.
