Rocksteady has admitted that they can’t easily fix the server bugs that have been affecting everyone in their latest game for over two weeks now. (If only they made an offline single-player game, right?)
With the release of their latest patch, dated February 14th, Rocksteady admitted that fixing the frequent login and server problems was their top priority. Sounds easy on paper, but it’s not easy in practice. It is true that this patch focused on bugs and balancing rather than server issues. So there will still be problems with that, and a lot of them.
“We are aware that some of our players are experiencing issues that are not addressed in this patch. These include, but are not limited to, matchmaking issues, login issues, performance issues, and progression issues. While we were not able to implement these fixes in this patch, please know that we are aware of the frustration this may cause and are working to make further improvements in future patches. We don’t want to delay changes that can be implemented quickly and improve parts of the game, so while we understand that you may be wondering and frustrated about priorities, keep in mind that we have different teams working on different issues in parallel,” Rocksteady wrote.
Reaction to the announcement has been mixed, with some applauding Rocksteady’s efforts and others saying the opposite. No wonder Suicide Squad director Axel Rydby took to the keyboard: “For our upcoming patches, we want to address login and server issues. And while we may not be able to fix all of these issues right away, I want to reassure everyone:This is a top priority for us.We hear and feel your frustration, and we couldn’t agree more that this is unacceptable for the players affected. We need to do better, and we’re working hard to address these issues. However, it’s not an easy nut to crack, as this is not a single issue, but several smaller issues that affect some players in different ways.We can only ask you to be patient and continue to provide us with more information through customer support to help us address these issues.”
Gameplay changes will be made (the promethium loop, getting players more involved in the open world, modifying Boom! and Affliction immunities to make them less restrictive, and making lower-level Legendary Items more useful). But it could all start with the game being playable offline by default. With Payday 3, Starbreeze also realized that the audience prefers to play the second part. And here the audience prefers Rocksteady’s previous game, Batman: Arkham Knight. Perhaps with good reason.
