The French publisher is up to something with the franchise, but that doesn’t mean the long-awaited sequel, which is slowly becoming vaporware, is suddenly ready!
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition (or Remastered…?) has been reviewed by the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC). This was confirmed by Ubisoft on the game’s 20th anniversary, and at the time the Yves Guillemot-led company said that players were in for a nostalgic action-adventure ride. Then the project leaked and appeared on Reddit via an early Ubisoft+ build, only to be revealed as a pretty ugly game. In response, Ubisoft has said that the leaked footage does not reflect the final product.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Beyond Good & Evil, our commitment to delivering a game that meets the high expectations of our fans is unwavering. We’re excited to announce that the official launch is set for early 2024, and we’re dedicated to making it an experience that truly honors the legacy of the original. Thank you for your understanding and support,” Ubisoft wrote.
The age rating confirms that Ubisoft is almost done with development on a remastered version of Beyond Good & Evil. And it’s already early 2024, but the French company has not yet said exactly when we can expect it. Probably later than the original timeframe, because at the time of the announcement they said early 2024, which could mean the first quarter, and now it could be at least the second quarter, so between April and June.
We cannot prepare for a lot of changes. We will probably see some visual tuning for Jade and Pey’J, but that’s about all we can expect from Ubisoft. After all, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development on paper, but let’s be honest: we didn’t use the term vaporware by accident, so it will probably never happen! Oh, and the funny thing is that Beyond Good & Evil has already received an HD remaster that was released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360…
