Metroid Prime 4: Nintendo Switch’s Successor Could Be Its New Life Preserver!

The new Nintendo console, which hasn’t been officially unveiled yet (but is rumored to be coming in March!), could see the long-rumored new Metroid Prime.

In 2023, Nintendo has released some excellent first-party titles (Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4 or Metroid Prime Remastered, and Super Mario RPG Remake), but there are questions about what games the big N is planning to release in 2024. The Japanese company is certainly holding back some major titles for the Switch’s successor, with rumors recently surfacing that it could launch the successor to the Nintendo Switch either in late 2024 or early 2025.

Metroid Prime 4 was announced by Nintendo in 2017, but development hell ensued, with the studio behind the original trilogy, Retro Studios, taking over development from Bandai Namco in 2019. All we’ve heard from them in the last few years is that development is slow. Other than that, we hear little or nothing about Samus Aran’s new 3D adventure. There have been some rumors, but nothing more. The bounty hunter deserves more!

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was released for Nintendo Wii in 2007, so it’s been over a decade and a half since its release. If we’re lucky, we can expect Metroid Prime 4 in early 2025, as that’s when the Switch’s successor could arrive (will it be a cross-generation game, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was on Wii U, or will Samus just be on the new hardware?) The new console may change tradition, and there may not be a new Mario or Zelda title among the launch titles, and the new Metroid Prime may fill the void.

All of this is still rumor, unfortunately, but Nintendo should have more to say about Metroid Prime 4 soon, as fans have been waiting on pins and needles for new information for a long time. And Metroid: Other M on Wii is best forgotten!
