Elden Ring Gets An Official Webcomic Before The DLC Launch!

Kadokawa has announced an upcoming webcomic called “Elden Ring: Become Lord” that covers the world and story of the game.

The publishing giant Kadokawa presented the new webcomic Elden Ring: Become Lord! It is based on the video game developed by From Software. According to current information, the upcoming comic will use a vertically scrolling format optimized for smartphones. It is expected to be released on March 29th, for now, only in Japanese.

Fifteen pages of the manga are already available online, and Kadokawa promises readers a colourful experience.

The reveal is well-timed, as fans have received a fresh Elden Ring craze following the recent trailer for the video game’s DLC add-on, Shadow of the Erdtree.

In fact, Elden Ring has already received other manga adaptations. But it seems that Become Lord will finally be the dramatization that takes the story material seriously.

With Elden Ring: Become Lord, readers can re-immerse themselves in the world of Lands Between

Kadokawa describes Become Lord as follows:

“The grand adventure of the action RPG ELDEN RING is now available in full-color comic. The story follows one of The Tarnished who, guided by blessings, reached the Lands Between and sets out on a journey to become the next Elden Lord. Along the way, the Tarnished encounters charming characters, explores various dungeons, battles mighty bosses, and more.”

Anime News Network reports that the official vertical webcomic will appear on Kadocomi’s website; it will also be available as an e-book and as a physical paper copy.

Currently, only the Japanese release has been announced. Kadokawa’s announcement also took care to introduce Hand Punch, the comic’s art duo currently best known for their award-winning work Emotions Evolution. The label described them as “rising stars”. They themselves stated that they were “honored to be entrusted with the comic adaptation of such a prestigious work” and that they “poured passion into the creation process without reservation.”

This isn’t the first time From Software’s award-winning RPG has received a manga adaptation; 2022 saw the release of Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree, written by Nikiichi Tobita.

Like Become Lord, it was initially published online as a webcomic. But now it has received a physical edition and an English translation. However, unlike the upcoming adaptation, this manga was a comedy that filled Tobita’s detailed and lifelike art with exaggerated facial expressions and jokes about video game mechanics. While the story wasn’t what fans were expecting, it was true to its spirit, considering the author was aware of the details of the game.
