So Toys for Bob doesn’t want to work under Microsoft anymore, but will become independent from the publisher.
Many of you might know Toys For Bob from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time or the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The studio announced on their website that they are leaving Activision, which is now owned by Microsoft. In other words, the studio is breaking away to continue development of its next game on its own (it’s still in the early stages, and they certainly won’t be keeping either the Spyro or Crash IP).
“We are thrilled to announce that Toys for Bob is spinning off as an independent game development studio! Over the years, we’ve inspired love, joy and laughter for the inner child in all gamers. We pioneered new IP and hardware technologies with Skylanders. We raised the bar for best-in-class remasters with Spyro Reignited Trilogy. We took Crash Bandicoot to innovative, critically acclaimed new heights. With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level. This opportunity allows us to return to our roots as a small and nimble studio.
To make this news even more exciting, we’re exploring a potential partnership between our new studio and Microsoft. And while we’re still in the early stages of developing our next game and a long way from making any announcements, our team is excited to create new stories, new characters, and new gameplay experiences. Our friends at Activision and Microsoft have been extremely supportive of our new direction, and we’re confident that we’ll continue to work closely together as we move forward. So stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled for more news. Thank you to our community of players for supporting us throughout our journey. We can’t wait to share updates on our new adventure as an indie studio! Talk to you soon,” Toys for Bob wrote.
Good luck to the team. It will be interesting to see how Toys For Bob works with Microsoft (IP usage?).
