Silent Hill 2 Remake: Rated In A Country; Coming Soon?

Bloober Team’s game has been rated in South Korea, so the Polish studio may indeed be at the end of its development.

Gematsu has discovered that the South Korean rating committee GRAC (which would be PEGI in Europe and ESRB in the US) has given a rating to Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was announced for 2022 but was rumored before. This means that Konami may soon release the game for PlayStation 5 (and later PC), as it’s not usual to give a rating to something if you have to wait another year for it. It’s up to Konami to decide when to release the game, and the Japanese publisher is also responsible for the marketing, which is why there’s a slightly uneasy relationship between the Bloober team and Konami.

A month ago, Piotr Babieno, president of Bloober Team, told YouTube channel inwestorzy.tv that the Polish studio (Observer, Blair Witch, The Medium) was very disappointed with the way Konami portrayed Silent Hill 2 Remake as an action game in the video they edited: “Seriously, we are not in charge of the marketing side. Our partner [Konami] is completely responsible for that. This trailer certainly does not reflect the spirit of the game. This is not the spirit of what was, nor is it the spirit of what we are creating now. We are trying to fully reflect this ideal vision of the game that debuted 22 years ago. We believe that when players see real gameplay, a real game, they will evaluate it in a completely different way. He added that there is no need to worry about visual detail, as the remake will take full advantage of Unreal Engine 5’s capabilities.

Silent Hill 2 Remake still doesn’t have an official release date, but the Bloober team is certainly in the bug-fixing, polishing phase with a modernized version of James Sunderland’s originally excellent story. It’s likely to arrive on PlayStation 5 sometime in the fall, and may even make an appearance on PC later this year. That’s up to Konami and Sony (the latter probably paid for exclusivity).
