Metal Gear Solid Gets A Documentary Series, But Konami’s Mindset Is A Joke! [VIDEO]

Even though it’s been over twenty-five years since the first Metal Gear Solid was released (it came out for the PS1 in the fall of 1998), Konami is still acting like a little kid, even though it’s been nine years since the things that made the Japanese publisher angry.

Konami has released the first installment of the Metal Gear Solid Legacy series. These videos complement Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection and provide a quick overview of the game’s extensive backstory. The opening video is six minutes long and features David Hayter. He voiced Solid Snake and Big Boss in the first four episodes of Metal Gear Solid. This is an excellent move by Konami. Not once is Hideo Kojima’s name mentioned.

Kojima took over another project for MSX2 in 1987. His idea with Metal Gear was to focus on MINIMIZING conflict, and it’s a fact that the two Metal Gear games were nowhere near as sophisticated as the 3D Metal Gear Solid games that followed, but we saw a lot of the same things in those two games (cardboard boxes, cigarettes, guided missiles, codecs, changing patrol routes…). A lot of people worked on these games, and it wouldn’t be fair to single out Kojima, but he was still the front man for Metal Gear before he left Konami in 2015 (leaving the Silent Hills project behind).

Hayter also had a problem with Kojima, as he didn’t voice Big Boss in 2014’s Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, but Kiefer Sutherland did. Still, he said of Metal Gear Solid: “The game found millions of fans worldwide. The sequels were equally well received, and ultimately grew into a franchise that reshaped the gaming world and remained relevant for decades. It stands alone as one of the most entertaining, layered, and brilliantly written video game series of all time. The developers knew that even serious games had to be fun. And they delivered.

Is Konami’s relationship with Kojima THAT bad?

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
