Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide DLC And A Free Update [VIDEO]

Not only is the action RPG that launched last summer on PlayStation 5 getting a major DLC update, but Final Fantasy XVI is also getting a free update.

According to the plot, an unmarked letter arrives at the Hideaway with a most curious request: the Dominant of Leviathan, the long-lost Eikon of Water, is in need of rescue. To answer this call, Clive and his companions must journey to Mysidia – a hidden land under the blue sky – where they will uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people. A new ally, Shula, also joins Clive as an invaluable ally on his journey to save Leviathan’s Dominant. There’s also a new area in the form of Mysidia. Deep in a sea of darkness, a sanctuary exists for those who know where to look – a lost oasis untouched by the ever-advancing Blight. Beneath its emerald branches, man and beast have found their final refuge.

Leviathan offers new abilities. Tame the tides and drown your enemies near and far with the terrifying power of the Eikon of Water. Leviathan’s Eikon ability is the Serpent’s Cry. Summon a sea-spitting serpent on Clive’s forearm that can attack enemies from a distance (using Triangle and Square). There’s also new endgame content, Kairos Gate. Unlock this challenging new mode after completing both The Rising Tide and the main game scenarios. Fight your way through 20 stages, each one more difficult than the last. Earn points as you battle and use them to upgrade Clive. Maximize your combat performance to earn more points. Find new materials and weapons at the end of each stage. Aim for a place on the global leaderboard. But that’s not all: after gaining the power of all the Eikons, something happens to Clive…

Here’s a look at what’s included in the 1.30 update, which requires no DLC and will be available to all players. Immediate return to a quest giver with the new Quick Complete feature. Updated icons for important character quests. New Skill Set feature allows you to save up to five unique Feat and Ability sets. Abilities and accessories adjusted for easier use. New controller type allows for customizable button layouts. Tone Correction, Screen Effects, and more added to Photo Mode. Approximately 40 new orchestrion roles added. Final Fantasy XVI will cross-over with Final Fantasy XIV in early April, and will also cross-over with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in Japan in April.

Final Fantasy XVI’s 1.30 update will be free and The Rising Tide DLC will be released on April 18th for $20, but you can also get the previous Echoes of the Fallen DLC with the Expansion Pass ($25).
